The term diaspora is referred to people whose origin lies in separate geographic location than the country they are living in.
The South Asian diaspora community in the UK is a community of people from territories of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. According to the 2011 UK Census, South Asians contribute to 4.9 percent of the total population (excluding other Asian groups and people of mixed ethnicity). Among these Indians are the largest ethnic minority in the UK and ranks sixth in the world in the Indian diaspora. Approximately 1.5 million Indians live in the UK and about one half of them are of Punjabi origin. Interestingly, they all have blended well with the English culture but at the same time created a space for themselves within a foreign country where they can feel at home.
